The ‘Couloir to Nowhere’ DVD is Here!
It's here at last: the Couloir to Nowhere DVD is now available, just in time for the holiday season! SierraDescents' first-ever short film tells the story of our ski descent of Iron Mountain, deep in the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains. When I first took a photo of Iron's north face, from atop Baden-Powell in 2008, I could have never imagined how much trouble that single photograph would cause...
It's been a wild ride, beginning with long nights of plotting and obsessing over the route, then a first few pitiful attempts to just reach the summit (all of which failed), then climbing and actually skiing 'Big Iron' this past season, and then the long, challenging process of trying to tell the story so that other people could see and feel what it was like to be there.
In addition to the main title, the C2N DVD is loaded with extras, including the Story of Iron Mountain and the three of us (Dave, Lou, & me) who skied it—the unlikely synergies that brought us together. You also get a ski descent of Split Mountain's handsome south face, plus a little bit of fun with some ice atop North Palisade's U-Notch Couloir that hopefully Mom will never see. The soundtrack features original music composed and recorded in the prestigious Apartment 13 Studios in beautiful West Los Angeles, California.
On a more personal note, I gave this project absolutely everything I had. While I don't foresee any Academy recognition in the near future, I do think the DVD does much justice to what will mostly likely remain the most extraordinary adventure I've ever had on skis. I heartily recommend it—and I thank you for your support!

Nice Vid. I've been on some scrappy tours in the San Gabriels, but this tops them all. Some used to call me sick. I learned when you go for a record with Braun, it's not just sick, it's terminal. The Couloir to Nowhere does a superb job of understating this reality.
