San J Okay
I can't figure these storms out. After a forecast initially calling for as much as 43" of snow, Tuesday's storm left a much smaller but still respectable 18" or so in the higher elevations of San Jacinto State Park, where Brent and I went exploring on Wednesday.
Despite the combination of abundant new snow plus last week's totals, the SoCal backcountry remains pretty marginal, however.
The skiing was certainly good, but snags were abundant—definitely one of those keep-your-weight-back kind of days. Base depth throughout the San Jacintos can optimistically be described as erratic. Given what I heard from friends, those of you who played the Mt. Baldy roulette wheel didn't fare much better.
Still, I'm glad I finally got out there and skied something local. I'm realizing, these past two winters, how much I like skiing the SoCal mountains and backcountry. I miss it.

Great music. Totally appropriate for SoCal!

Sweet video! The only thing missing are music credits.

So nice. How any laps, wind, struggles? Really like the long epics and well written accounts you post. One of my favorite powder mag stories was about BC skiing in Nevada (ludwig). Your accounts are every bit as good, any publications? BTW thanks on the ski reports. Older post, (Solomon Czar) seemed in my wheel house, being a resort pow chaser/crud buster/3 turn left overs senior skier and obsessive storm watchers anonymous member. Ben's weather seems best but went from 1-2' to 6-12". Still booked wed/thurs and nailed 12-14" at Summit, best cold pow locally in memory. Anyways thanks for your work.
