Lizard Head Pass

I like to imagine someday retiring to the San Juans, where I'd become known as that crazy old man from California who skis innovative and aesthetic lines that somehow skirt the range's innumerable avalanche paths.
Though in practice I'd likely do what the locals do—ski safe (or "safe") powder stashes out my front door, and wait wait wait for a spring corn season that never quite materializes.
The SJ's are special. Driving Lizard Head Pass on Saturday, I kept gazing wistfully at all that magnificent terrain, so easily accessible and yet so eerily untracked.
Much like SoCal skiers, I'm guessing Telluride and Ophir residents have learned to be very, very patient with their mountains. Someday I'll visit and do a proper exploration—winter and summer. For now, it's back home for me.

Been thinking about you and your family. So sorry for all you've been through.
A co-worker proposed we do Williamson this summer. We are discussing routes and I've been reading your "Hero's Traverse" over and over. Would be a heck of an undertaking.
Thanks for inspiring me with your dedication and will to persevere.
